Is the vehicle manual? Did u plug in the inline toggle switch that comes with the unit and set it to the on position? Forget the tach for the moment, verify the info i just asked and we'll move forward. Also is there any factory anti theft?

7 flashes is listed as one of the following in my 5701 install:

timer mode/turbo mode/manual mode error.

you can change the menu to automatic transmission mode to verify that it will start from the remote but safety disclaimer you MUST NOT leave it in automatic transmission mode after doing this to test if it works and make sure vehicle is in neutral.

as long as it starts ok then change back to manual trans mode,if it does then maybe something is not hooked up right for the brain to sense going through the manual trans reservation mode i.e door input, brake or parking brake wires.

are you going through the reservation mode procedure correctly? sometimes doing 1 thing wrong or out of sequence can prevent a succesful r/s

also if you end up not finding a good tach source you can use the 5701's voltage sense option, i have never used it with mine but i have heard other people using it with no problems

you also have a wire from the alarm that can be connected to the wait to start line that illuminates the glow plug bulb on the dashboard so it wont attempt to start until the light goes off, again if you dont have any luck finding the wire there is the option in the menu to also set a delayed start time after the r/s turns on the ignition circuits for 15,30, or 45 seconds or finer tuning with a bitwriter

Use a 454t from DEI, inductive tach sensor, it's safer with a diesel. Also you need to get a 556UW by-pass wired Euro fashion, i.e. no antenna loop.
