subwoofer box terminals

im building a box for my hdc3 18". It has direct connect 12 guage(correct me if im wrong on the guage) wire. how should i do the terminals on the box? i was thinking bolts, but i dont knnow how exactrly to do that, and what type of metals to use. also on the leads, if i use the bolts, should i use solder for the rings terminals or just crimp them? thanks!

if you are going to use bolts then you are going to want to use a metal that has good relative conductivity. (silver is always best but also most expensive) http://www.wisetool.com/designation/cond.htm as far as the terminals use a good copper terminal and go with solder.       if you have any other questions about audioque products check audioque.com and get the number for tech support.    i believe the fellows name is dj.   he will be able to tell you the best way to to run your direct leads.

Anytime I build a box, I usually just use a piece of speaker wire that will reach from the woofer to the amp. I drill a hole in the box, run the wire thru and seal it as best I can with silicone from both inside and out. no worries about terminals, unless your mounting the amp in an unaccessible location. Then a terminal would be best.

Check out Stinger for terminals. They used to make a few different types of terminals and one of them was made for an application like this.

In my "fishing" vehicle, (a 2003 sante fe), I have an amp under the cargo area cover to run a bandpass box. I ran the speaker wire through a hole in the box as posted above and used an Anderson connector about 1 foot from the box. That way if I am going for a few days and need to take the box out to get to the amp, or to load more gear, I can just unplug the box and not have to worry about the wire shorting.
