HI..i am new to this forums so forgive me if i bring up an old thread.I am installing a stereo in my restored 1974 beetle.i have a choice between the kenwood kdc-u546bt and the sony cdx-gt790u.I have generally read to stay away from anything sony..they are crap. But this one looks really good..and sounds OK.I am generally a kenwood fan, their sound quality has always been excellent but its been years since i acquired one.I am baised towards the kenwood but i would like some expert technical advice or from experience.Any advice out there...what would you advise me to buy?

Eh... I haven't heard any of the newer sony or kenwood, but they are all only mediocre subs. I always had better experience from Pioneers at that price range... But I haven't dealt with consumer grade brands like that in a while; Spend a little more and go with a low-end Audio-Que, you will likely be much happier.

Why are we recommending subs? He asked about head units...
The Kenwood. If you are remembering that the Sony decks are garbage, that hasn't changed much. I like the new Kenwood stuff...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

As i thought...i guess i will go with the kenwood.I hear pioneer is good...but honestly as they say everyone has different tastes..in most cases the bias was towards the kenwood. But i guess my next HU will be a pioneer just to try it out and give em another chance.

If I were you I would stay with Kenwood. Sony radios are just just junk, i see more come back with problems than any other brand. As for Pioneer they are getting really cheaply made. The new ones all have 20AWG wires and feel cheaply made. They have improved thier ergonomics for the 2011 model year, but it still seems they are cutting corners on their hardware to try an save a penny or two.
