Hey guys I have a a 2006 Jetta TDI. A little while ago the door lock switch stopped working on the driver side door. I took the rubber boot off in the door jam and found a mess of crack/frayed/broken wires in there. I did a quick fix on the wires that were broken untill the door harness I ordered would arrive. In the mean time more wires and cracked and had been shorted causing the battery to drain. I installed the harness and now the door lock switch, mirrors, power windows. fuel door, and truck switch all went dead. The door locks still operate on the driver side door if the switch is used on the passenger side. I have done my best to check all connections, fuses, switches but haven't come up with anything yet. Its tough to do too much diagnosing without any sort of wiring diagram but i noticed to 12 gauge wires going into the control module in the door (one brown, the other red and yellow) The RED / yellow wiring has 12v going to the module all the time. The brown has nothing, even when the ignition is on.

Im sure i must have overlooked something, can anybody give any suggestions?

Well Im not sure what your actual problem is with the locks but I can tell you that the brown wire in that car going into the door is a ground wire, so you shouldnt ever measure voltage on it.

Brown definitely your ground, you might need to run diagnostics on this one.

Check the in car side of the door connector, they love to swim and then oxidize resulting in broken connections.
