I currently have a 500x1 RMS Polk Momo amp and 500W RMS TC Sounds 12" sub.  Overall it sounds very good but I'm always open to the possibility of upgrading.  So here's my question: If I was to upgrade to a quality 1000W RMS amp, and an SQ-based 1000W RMS sub (such as the SSA Icon or Fi Q Q12) would I simply be looking at an increase in SPL or would the extra power result in deeper bass, more nuanced/detailed/textured bass, etc. (note, I would be building a sealed enclosure).   I don't really care about having more SPL than I currently have and I would only be interested in more impressive SQ...and I am using my subwoofer as a true SUBwoofer (24db crossover set around 65hz).  Also, are there any other 1000W RMS subs you would recommend in the $250-$400 range?

Is this having to do with your other thread, re: 12" vs. 15"?
If you are considering trading away from (notice I did NOT say "up" from) the TC woofer, you are going to be very hard pressed to find a driver that will be worth the additional cost. There are PRECIOUS few woofers out there that offer bang-for-the-buck like the TC woofers, and NONE that I can think of, off the top of my head, that offer *better* bang for the buck. A fan of the TC woofers myself, they occupy a price to performance ratio that's about as perfect as I have seen, ESPECIALLY the Epic series. If I have ever seen a product misnamed, the Epic is it... Epic, to me, does NOT mean "entry level", which is what they are.
Louder, yes. Better SQ? Possibly, but no guarantees, at all, and not too likely, considering the driver you are currently using.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
