To any guru,

I install a remote starter in a diesel f350. When programming the remote starter for the diesel, you are suppose to turn on and off the ignition 8 times and end in the off position. After doing so and finished the programming the starter, the installation was complete. Couple of hours later went down the road and everything shut down. Comes to find out the regulator in the alternator went bad. My question is, was it possible that turning the ignition on and off 8 times cause me to blow the alternator.

Probably not. Turning on and off the ignition 8 times places no load on the alternator, since it is only operative when it is being spun and is charging the battery and providing the power when the truck is running. Very weird nonetheless, but sounds highly coincidental. Now you got me wondering if the two events could have been related in any way....logic says no, but who knows what they tie together nowadays.

If it helps you in the future, I didn't want to flip the ignition back and forth when programming my Autopage 750, as it just seems like it wouldn't be the best thing to do to the car's computer, etc. Instead, just before I buckled down the install and it was time to program it, I turned the ignition on, then pulled and replaced the fuse that I have on the ignition lines however many times - and the alarm doesn't know the difference.
