yes. hears the deal- I'm trying to put something togather that can be phoned and set off an alarm. Also, eventualy-looking to track the car to to find its lacoation-cheep. I just need something with an output via telephone for now. The car dealers I service want a way to turn off customers cars that do the buy here pay here thing, to purchase their cars. The dealers want to be able to turn off/find the car if the customers dont pay. I know there are services out there that have these devices but there not cost efective for the small car dealers. trying to put a package togather for around 200 out of pocket, so I can slap them on for free. then just collect a monthly fee for service. then semi retire.:-)

Have you looked into the legalities of this first ? Not to say that it's not a good idea to shut off vehicles of customer's that don't pay, but what if they are moving and you shut off the car and it causes a collision or death ? Something to think about before going ahead with this, but make sure you are completely covered as far as the installer part of it goes, otherwise it's going to be a blame game in the end if someone gets hurt or dies !

DEI discontinued the service part of CarCom, hence it is no longer around. Turning off a car is not a good idea at all. If you really need to track a vehicle you would need to get a GPS tracking unit installed. As far as I know, it will be difficult to find that for $200. The cheapest I have seen is about $350, but that wasnt retail and did not include the price of the service. Search for Automotive GPS on a search engine and you should find what you are looking for. Certain models will tell you the address and location of the car if available and even the speed and direction on certain models.

Jeff- the car is'nt shut off while its running, it just doesnt start the next time you go to start it(basic ign kill). as far as the legalities- they sign that away when they agree to the financing. two companies are pushed in my area, believe it or not one pc board is by bulldog, but the system/service is by an outfit in Texas.I've read the contracts and there tested legal already. And these dead beats arnt MY customers, there the dealers. I'm not in the picture- the dealer is the bad guy(he pulls the triger).this thing gets installed before they buy the car.
JR- me too, Ive found them for $350- covert, no wire hook up, 18 days on an internal batt. but Id tap in it and run it hot.
Ncollini-so far gps2000(excalibur) and another Autotrax both run
6-700 pluss monthly service fee. excalibur just put up a dedicated web site for it and in a stock/news releas are bosting of 2k subscribers so far in launch fase.
design tech has a phone mod that puts out a few trigers too, hardware is cheep but they kill you on service air time, 50 hits a year limit too.
still doing homework,
Thanks for the input men.
constructive critisism is very much welcomed, lots of heads are better then one.
sinc,
Mark
