Fiberglass custom box

I have read some posts that say to get fiberglass at autozone, napa, home depot, lowes etc... I am curios as to wheather or not there are places that would sell in a more bulk amount. I want to build a sub enclosure in my trunk / hatch that will also create a new floor. I am planning on using mdf for the top but the contours of the trunk definitely require fiberglass. How much resin / matting would I be looking at? How thick is the average application? Does anyone live near Cincinnati, OH that would be interested in helping a newbie...?

Hi Jeff, I'm a bit of a newbie and would appreciate any advice you can provide as well.. I have an RSX Type S and hope to build a fiberglass enclosure for the JL 12W7.  I will also need to mount two amps, the JL 1000/1 and the 300/4.  How much fiberglass/resin would I need?  And about how much would that be?? to BLUERSX510 if your planning on building the enclosure and amp rack(s) out of glass I would make sure the sub enclosure is very thick(that sub can do some damage!) around 1/2"-3/4" thick glass. the thicker it's made the less chance of the enclosure flexing; which is no good for trying to produce high levels of  bass (or db's). So i would make the enclosure either 3/4" thick or 1/2" with a grip of bracing. With the amp racks I wouldn't worry about thickness as much (unless you are making the enclosure apart of the amp rack(s) then it would need to be thicker) lay down about 4 to 5 layers of glass. As far as amount of glass and resin I would get around one gallon and a half of resin, and mat around twenty-four to thirty-two feet squared. good luck have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will probably need about 2.5 square meters of 2 oz. chopped matting and about 1.5 gallons of resin for an enclosure. If you are wanting to incorporate the amps into a fiberglass enclosure you will need lighter wieght matting and more resin. Your also going to need some Rage Gold body filler and some polyester primer to finish the enclosure off properly.
