Hello,
With the help of the forum I was able to install a Compustar Remote Start and Keyless Entry into my 86 Camaro. Well I now have a 1999 Ford F150 I would like to Install a similar system into. I am looking to install a Compustar 1WAM-S Remote Car Starter Start Keyless Entry. I know this truck has a Immobilizer key (I think that's what the chipped key is called) and I was just interested in finding out what else I need to purchase to make this system work.
Also, if anyone would like to suggest a different system that is cheaper or easier to install I am all ears. I am looking for remote start and keyless entry, with a transmitter of at least 1500ft or more.

look into code alarm, thats what im using in my 99 f150. code alarm 6551 has a remote start and starter interupt build right in. it is designed to be used with flash logic, and where most other remote starts require the spare key being placed in a hdiden location in the vehicle, code alarm does not require this. if the transponder key isnt in the ignition then it wont go in gear with out shutting back off so it cant be jacked that way, and the starter wire is cut so the truck cant be hot wired, plus it has a fuel cut of and starter interupt. it also taps into the electrical system  and has door triggers, hood trigger, trunk trigger, shock sensor, and an optional tilt sensor, window up/down modual and infrared sensor. it will also let you know if somehow a seperate remote tapps into your system. as well as the key pad will tell you that your alarm is going off and why its going off.

also if you loose your keys you can kick the rear tire and your keys will chirp.

the alarm also taps into the horn and lights, and has a loud speaker

The Compustar is a good unit, however it might not give the transmitter

range of 1500'.  Think they list it as 1000'.  Depending on the Compustar
brain, there are other Remote/Antenna kits that will provide the range
you need.

Your truck should have a transponder immobilizer system and require a

bypass module.  DEI has the PKALL and PKFM, Fortin has the Key-OverRide-ALL
and iDatalink lists ADS TBSL KO.

If your truck has factory remote keyless entry, it has Type B locks.  If

it doesn't have factory RKE, you have Type C locks and will need relays
or a DEI 451M module to interface the locks.

The truck has 1 Starter, 2 Ignitions and 2 Accessory circuits.  You will

need one additional 30/40 Amp SPDT relay with fuse to power all the ignition
circuits.

Soldering is fun!

Thanks for the info guys!
Only thing i am not sure of is if the truck originally had Keyless Entry. I only have a key and no remote... but the truck is 12 years old, I bet it got lost at some point. I wonder if I contact the dealer if they would be able to tell me? Any other way to check?

The best way is to test the wires with a Digital Multi Meter.  Go to the Downloads section
and download the Direct Fax 1041 document ( search on DF1041 or 1041 ).  That guide gives
very good info on the typical door lock systems and how to test / differentiate the types.
A definite "must read" and handy reference for any installer.
