Hey guys, first post and first RS install in about 5 years. I was in to all this about 5 years ago then abrubtly stopped.

I'll be installing an Avital 4103LX into a 2010 Honda Civic, with a PKH34 Transponder bypass.

I have everything down except for the possible use of Diodes. I've read about them I'm just not sure if its neccessary in this installation.

Can someone please confirm the following:

On the civic the door locks are (-) trigger, the Avital unit sends (-) pulses. Obviously then, at rest the civic shows 12v at rest and grounds out when lock or unlock are used. Do I need a diode blocking (+) current from going to the RS unit or does the RS have some form of on board protection?

The hood pin is my concern. I want to use the factory hoodpin which is again a (-) trigger (12v at rest, grounds out when opened). Since the installation manual seems to assume you will be using the supplied DEI hood pin switch would a Diode be neccessary to protect the RS unit?

OR do I completely not understand the possible uses of diodes and the above info makes no sense at all?

Many thanks, this forum has been of great help over the years!

Sometimes the factory alarm can interfere so a diode to the existing hood pin and others such as doors and trunk are also advised. Having said that I've never found them needed on that vehicle.
You are right about the locks by the way.
Is this unit an alarm R/S or just an R/S?

It's a RS/keyless entry unit (no alarm). Thanks for the reply. Being that it's only an RS unit is the unit capable of receiving a (+) signal on the hood pin?
