I am installing a 556uw for the first time on a HHR and the ring is almost twice the size of the cylinder.  Do I have to shorten the loop or can I just fold over the extra after I cover the circumference of the cylinder?

I also have the factory thing right behind the trim piece.  Can I put the loop behind the factory thing?

Thanks

If they 556UW has the pre-formed ring, place it around the ignition switch and tie wrap the excess out of the way & securing it in place.

The correct placement is in front of the antenna right, right behind the cover as you currently have it.

Soldering is fun!

If you are talking about the Chevy HHR then the 556U is no the bypass you need.

The 556U will work fine when combined with relays and resistors in the HHR. There are better options for bypass in the HHR but that does not mean the 556U wouldn't work. For example the ADS-AL CA with the GM ring works without having to lose a key and handles the MUX circuit so there's no need for additional relays and resistors.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

If installing a 556 is difficult then maybe the 556 is not the bypass to use with this vehicle. The ADS ALCA is far better. That is really what i wanted to say.

Agree with fellpw forum members.  An iDatalink bypass module like the ADS-ALSL GM will make life easy.

Does anyone have pictures of the 556u ring installed?  I can remote start the car with the key in the ignition.  The relay in the 556 box clicks so I think it is working.

It starts with the key in because it sees the resisted values. You need to add the relays/resistors.

Personally i would never do one without an Idatalink module...
