i have a customer who wants a dvd/nav unit in his 1997 chevy pickup ext cab,  he doesnt want a flipout he wants a double din but i thought all double dins are too big for the opening.  is there any double din units that will work without cutting the dash?  if not,  any ideas on the best way to cut the dash?  prefer not to cut the dash though.  thanks for any help.

You will never get a double DIN in there without modifying the dash. The dash panel is no problem because there is plenty of empty space around the factory opening. Your biggest concern will be depth. The dash curves down behind the radio quite sharply. You can remove the factory bracket behind it and fit some of the shallower units, but measure the depth of the radio before you start cutting.

you will have to modify the dash to get a double din in the dash. you can make a center console pretty easy and stick the radio in that. then you could fill the hole for the factory radio with an equalizer or make a custom switch panel or some other custom touch
