Ok the 556u came from a 2000 volvo and the loop has been cut.  All I can find says there should be 2 wires coming from the key cylinder but on this volvo it has a little grey box with anout 5-6 wires coming from a green plug. The factory ring must be in this plastic box, but what wires coming from the green plug into the car are the wires to cut into as the european instructions say?

If I were to try and remake the ring which wires off the 556u would i connect. The loop is long gone.

Remote start work great if I hold key close to ign.

Thank you in advance for any help. No tech articles tell which wires are coming out the green plug.

Blue from R/S.
Red, 12V+
Black, ground.
Then 3 to the 2 wires from the ignition switch to the immobiliser.
Don't make a loop and check the wiring to the 556U, make sure the key is sitting in it correctly.
It works better Euro style than with a loop, therefore your unit is faulty for any of the reasons listed above.
556U instructions should be on this site under Downloads/Manuals.

the 556u loop was cut off. Went to stereo shop down the road and got a 556uw. Went home unplugged the cut loop and plugged in the new loop and positioned around grey key cylinder and it fired right off first try. Then put it all back together and it works great so far. Sorry about any confusion.
