A friend of mine connected the dimmer wire to a ground on a 97 olds aurora,And guess what!!!! the dash lights only work with the auto headlights off.I have checked all fuses and relays with no luck.any sugg. would be great

Look harder for a blown fuse. I will check for fusebox locations for you. Until then, which fusebox did you check?

Disconnect the instrument panel (IP) compartment lamp switch connector.

2.

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Connect a fused jumper between the IP compartment lamp switch connector terminal?B (BLK) and ground.

Does the IP compartment lamp light?

under the back seat 2 locations, next to the drivers left knee under dash and under hood behind passenger headlight. checked every fuse wit a meter.

Thanks for the repl, it ended up being the rheostat for the lighting.
