so i have a friend that has a buick with vats. Every few days, he gets stranded because the vats won't let him start the car (light flashes, and to wait 15 minutes to try again)
In other cars (pass key) i remember just measuring the resitence between the cylinder wires, and soldering a the correct resistor inline and never had to worry about it again.
so i did some searching online and found a diagram of the vats bypass (without remote start)

so do i really just have to unplug the harness, and plug in the appropriate resistor? Is it that simple on vats?
thanks

yes, wiring in the correct value of resistor and disconnecting the old wiring at the lock cylinder as described is correct.

Look for a DEI 652T resistor pack.  It will include the correct resistor ( one of 15 values ).  You can measure it at the key.  Place the DMM leads on the metal strips on either side of the pellet on the key itself.

Soldering is fun!

not sure if you can still get the 652T pack, if you can't just measure the resistance and go to a local electronics retailer to pick up a few resistors, and solder that in.
