I have a buddy who brought me his truck. It has a APS996 Alarm and the old remote broke 5BCR and he got a 5BCR05 replacement. The remote will lock and unlock the truck fine but there is no feedback to the remote now showing the display if the truck is locked or unlocked. If the alarm goes off the remote does not respond now ether. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the remote transmitter is defective. Where did you get it?

Did the visual indicators work on the old remote?

He bought the new remote at a local Alarm shop. A year or so ago and has never been able to get it to work properly

I've seen that before; it's the wrong remote.
Audiovox seems to have made a few different versions of the 996 in the beginning, and each had a different remote. There's the 5BCR05, a 5BCR07, the 5BCR, and maybe one more.
So unfortunately, he has the wrong remote. He's lucky he still at least has the original to go by, because there doesn't seem to be a reliable way of telling what you need otherwise.
