I am brand new to fiberglass/subwoofer building and I need advice. It will be for the trunk of my 1972 chevelle with 2 12's angled towards the back corners. I am planning on a fiberglass cover. I was planning on building the box and everything with MDF and then making a fiberglass cap and molding it to how I want it to look.
Is this is best approach or should I go another way? I have attached a couple pictures of how someone else did their trunk and I'm going to use the same approach but I'm going to do the two 12's angled.
Also when I do the fiberglass what is the best way to do it. I was going to do it out of the car but I need to tie it into the side panels on the back (the two that run left to right) so it doesn't look weird with a fiberglass sub enclosure and then carpet panels on the sides.

what you want is a beauty panel...Smart move! It's next to impossible to make the box "tuned" in a free form built up fibreglass enclosure! I worked at a (world famous) shop building them...they were mainly for "show" cars at sema and ces that never got cranked up and were all built for "free" for the manufactures. The shop got free big coverage and free crap to the owner who sold it latter? All were measured using packing peanuts poured from the enclosure to a sq. cu. ft. box to figure out it's volume. then we tuned the port as close as we could? They sounded OK but were not rocket science! I pioneered the use of "foam" instead of blocks, speaker baffle rings and grill cloth. The foam they sell at craft stores they put in the bottom of a flower arrangements dose not melt when used with polyester resin unlike expanded polystyrene (styrofoam)or you can do the traditional way with glue gun, blocks, grill cloth and baffle rings...you might want to think twice about tie'n it into the side and if you use vinyl it should blend in nice and you will be able to modify easily latter...you should be able to find some youtube videos to give you a clue...no one taught me I screwed with the crap until I fingered it out! In fact I got hired just to do glass work, I had experience making surfboards and body work. first time I saw a car with glass work I went home and dialed my ride in...the shop that hired me wanted to see my ride after buying a lot of esoteric brands so I showed it to them, I started the next weekend ( had a full time job already) and worked every weekend spring summer and fall for 3 years.Traded for more esoteric audio! IE: illusion, focal, rainbow and audio control...Any who the craps messy and a lot of work so I would play with the stuff until you feel competent with it and try to find as much as you can about it before starting you project, the example you have in the post looks to be a good start! Here's a article of me and a composite I invented that was quite a hit 8 years ago...first night I "fake" ripped a panel and "fake" measured the trunk of the caddy, threw it together next night and the following morning I tossed it in the dumpster! It was just for my friend to have material for an article in lowrider! complete BS! I got to keep the hertz sub and my partner kept the audison amp and sony monitor? I got raked over on that deal!LOL! Good luck and buy some gloves!
