I am planning on installing a remote start in a 2005 Volvo S40 with a 556u. I have read about problems of the metallic ring blocking the 556u ring signal. I am wondering if it is possible to hardwire the 556u into the factory transponder ring. I have a schematic of the ignition switch and there are 3 wires going to the immobilizer module (which I believe is inside/part of the ignition switch). There is a power wire (powered by keysense wire), a ground wire, and a wire that goes to the Central Electronic Module. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

i am certainly no volvo expert but the way I have seen it done is by taking the ignition switch out of the dash and it comes apart in 2 halves.  Put the loop for the 556u between the two halves and it works out well.

Thank you, I will have to try that. Do you know if the keysense wire needs to be powered up for the immobilizer module to work and if so how do I prevent the car from "seeing" 2 keys? Thanks again!

from my limited experience volvo is one of those cars that needs the keysense powered otherwise I believe you will incur a light on the dash

If you power the keysense wire, how do you signal the 556u to turn off when a key is inserted in the ignition switch?

you have to power the keysense or else the car will not start. use a relay.

86 & 87 - 12 volts

30 - vehicle keysense wire

85 - GWR or status wire

Will the car shut down when it senses two different keys? If so, how do I get the 556u to shut off as soon as the key is inserted into the ignition switch?
