Yes, the R/S's Parking Light wire connection the the ION's Parking Light wire acts the same as if you had actually turned the Headlight Switch to the Parking Light position ( instrument panel illumination at the preset level ).

I think my last question would be if the avital or idatalink were to loose power for a short or long period of time for a dead battery for example or the battery was disconnected to work on the car. Will the unit retain all the information that was programmed or will it have to be relearned like a new setup

Not sure about the Avital ( not my usual brand ) but the iDatalink module should be fine and still programmed / working upon power restoration.
