I installed a Viper 5204 w/DBALL D2D in a 2009 Sebring for a family member.

It has came back to me because it started failing to start, shut down diagnostics indicate it is the Hood Pin shutdown but the problem is I did not install a hood pin at the car owners request. Out of curiousity I changed the setting to "Open" instead of "Closed" so the grey wire would see negative all the time and it worked for 2 weeks - it is now back with the same issue. I could easily change the option back to "Closed" and fix it but that would not be the right way to fix it. I have installed hundreds of these things and have never ran into this issue (when no hood pin is present)

Before I tear this thing back apart does anyone have any idea where I may start?

I strictly use Idatalink but is there an option to turn off that setting on the DBALL? It could be a glitch. I've had that happen to me on idatalink modules and what I did is just turn off that option on the module.

By what I can see there is no "option" to turn it off - just Open or Closed connection via the 5904.

Is the hood pin wire grounding out on anything? The hood pin is a very important safety feature and should be installed. You are just asking for trouble by not putting one in...

I've yet to install a DB-ALL that "saw" the hoodpin, always had to hardwire it.

But test it before changing it, although the DB-ALL should sense the hoodpin through the data system if it's a factory hoodpin.
