I'm getting a system installed by tweeter.
It consists of:
2 12inches JL audio W6's (300 rms each)
and
Xtant x1001 among other things.
(1000 watts @ 2 & 1ohm and 500 at 4ohms and so on)
Anyway there are 2 ways to wire these subs:
6 ohms and 1.5 ohms
1) My installer wants to put them at 6ohms as he said the gain only controls the volume not constant wattaage through the subs.
2) I thought the subs should be wired at 1.5 ohms as the subs are 300 rms a piece and the nob would b turned down a bit.
I believe 6 ohms would put way to little watts to the subs and 1.5 ohms would be better.
Can you please help me decide what is correct?
I have an appointment tomarrow morning for the install so hopefully I can get quick replies.
I'd appreciate your help and posts in resolving the matter.
Thanks,

wire them at 1.5 ohms and turn the gains all the way down to start and play with them from there...wiring them at 6 ohm would be silly, and a waste in all honesty...
this would be best in a smaller sealed box, because if you try it in a larger box, or even worse, ported, you would make very short work of the woofers...

Dangitt!,
I already have them in a custom ported enclosure!!!!!!
Do you think I can still put them @ 1.5 ohms?
I have a remote gain module so I can tweak the gain from the front if I hear distortion.
They are currently wired at 6ohm, and the gain can be turned all the way without distortion. They are still very loud though, but they are underpowered.
BTW, how many watts are going into each sub since they are at 6ohms? The amp puts out 500 @ 4ohms.
I'm not sure of how to wire the amp and subs so that they are at 1.5ohms.
The JL's are dual 6ohm.
I normally would but the Xtant amp has:
Dual Speaker output Terminals:
Even though the x1001 is a mono amplifier, 2 sets of speaker output terminals have been provided. Both positive terminals and negative terminals are paralleled. Either set of terminals or both sets of terminals may be used. This feature will help to simplify the parallel connection of multiple woofers and insure maximum current flow.
Can anyone give me a detailed explanation on how to wire them?

Wire both subs' voice coils in parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative) then a lead from each sub into the terminals. The terminals are tied together internally, so this will yield your desired 1.5 ohm impedence.

Wire each DVC sub in parallel and then to it's own set of terminals on the dual terminal outputs. Wiring each DVC in parallel will produce a 3ohm load for each sub. Then by wiring each sub to it's own set of dual terminal outputs will produce a 1.5 total ohm load at the amp.
BE CAREFUL. As Big Purds said, turn the gains all the way down at first. You will be sending just under 500watts to each sub if the gains are turned up! If you have the 12W6AE's then 500watts voids the warranty. If you have the 12W6V2's, then 500watts is approaching what JL calls the "Danger Zone". Just watch the gains and you should be okay running at 1.5ohms.
Here's what it should look like (it's a crude drawing, but I think it gets the point across!)...

I greatly appreciate all your help and replies. I would never have been able to figure it out by myself, and I thanks you guys alot. I think it will definitly be better with low gain @ 1.5ohm than full gain @6ohm.
Thanks again.
