anyone ever have to give money back to a customer because there was a problem with the remote start (or blamed on the remote start) that couldn't be solved

Yes but I sold him an audio upgrade instead, removed the R/S and luckily sold it within a week.

if you don't mind me asking? What was the problem?
And yes we have done that once before but it was to show the customer that it was not the remote start that was the problem.

i installed a omega remote start/alarm in a 2012 chevy cruze last january-i had a hard time programming the DBALL but finally got it to work.
it's a long story but he said the alarm was killing the battery and there were other things like the remote wouldnt shut the alarm off when triggered.i checked the car everytime he complained and it worked perfectly for me-i even swapped the omega for compustar CM4200 remote start no alarm but using the same DBALL,
4 weeks later he said the was dead again and the onstar guy said it from the remote starter,so i removed everything today and sent him on his way.

First problem "The Onstar guy said".
Get that in writing, then the legal onus is on them not you.
Reading a fault via a data link V. actual diagnostics in a court? Never.
That apart make sure you come out ahead, sell something else.
First rule of mobile work; the further away the install, the more the problems.

I did a Parrot Mki 9200 in an 04 E-Class Benz about a month ago.
The factory unit was amped so I had to get to the amp for speaker adaptor.
That entailed releasing and pulling aside the "cargo area fuse/SAM (rear body control) module" and pulling my ACC from there.
After install and box up the smart key wouldn't turn!
I discovered there was a fusing module adjacent to the battery with three X 200 amp fuses and one had blown!
Worked around it with an ANA fuse because the module is $275!!
Couple of warning lights but knowing Mercedes I told him to drive the car for 20 miles to clear them.
Last week he phoned me to tell me that car wouldn't start and he called a sparks who told him "and it was a known fact" that the Parrot was interfering with the ignition. I pointed out that the unit was fed from the amp constant and a rear ACC, the front situated ignition modules were IGN, could I please have that in writing? Heard no more since.
Keep control of the situation!

Write out on the estimate form that no money will be returned. Also have it on the invoices. write it out as a fact that you are only giving store credit. We did a living social and now when they dont come in it goes up to full price. Had 2 customers already do that and they want there money back. sorry wont happen. read the fine print NO REFUNDS!!
