I've recently bought a 2002 Ford Mustang and have started to do some basic mods to the car. One of the mods I want to do is to add some neon lights to the interior of the car. I'll be adding neon lights under the hood, in the trunk and in various locations inside the car. What I would like to do is make a panel for toggle switches to turn the lights on and off with. The problem I'm running into is I don't want the lights to be on when the car is shut off. Just in case I forget to shut one off I don't want them to drain my battery. I have found a wire diagram for my car and have been told that If I connect the lights to an accessory line the lights will only receive power when the car's key is in the accessory or run position. From looking at the diagram I can't tell which wire is the one for both the accessory and run position.

Which wire do I use ? Will I need any sort of relay or special connection to the accessory wire or can i just splice into it and run as many accessories off the wire as I want ?

Thank You

Here's a copy of the wire diagram.

One of these wires should work. You should use a relay and connect the trigger on the relay to
the ignition wire. I would suggest that you take your power out via the fuse box accessory circuit. Test the wire/circuit with a 12v light tester.

Yes, use a relay or a few.  Depending on how many switches and lights you run.  I like to come off the battery to power up the relay and off the key-on acc to the switch than over to the relay.  That way uou can use a little LED switch that is backlit different colors when on or off to tie in with the whole neon light scheme inside.

Have fun with it, and use sloder and heatshrink.
