< size=3 face=Calibri>I have a 2002 Montero Sport with 144,000 miles. In the last few weeks it developed a problem with the cruise control. When I am in cruise and step on the brake it starts to accelerate. It will continue for 4-5 seconds and break free and quit. If I hold the decel lever down it will slow with the brake, and act normal. When I am below the 25 MPH threshold for the cruise to work, braking has no impact; if I slow to under 25, let go of the decel and brake, everything works fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

As a follow up to my cruise control question, I found the answer. The brake switch on my brake pedal was bad. I didn't have any brake lights. This caused the problem with my cruise control.
