I built the relay circuit outlined in "Radio On Until Door Opened" but for whatever reason it works the exact opposite as it should. When I turn off the ignition with the stereo on and the door closed the stereo shuts off just as normal. When I turn off the ignition with the door open the stereo remains on. Closing the door cuts the power to the stereo. Any idea what's up and how I can remedy this? My car is a 2000 Honda Civic EX if that helps.

Double check the relays - sounds like you have a couple of your 87 and 87a's backwards....probably lucky somethings not dead shorting.

I have checked them and checked them and them again. I am absolutely sure they are wired exactly as outlined in the diagram.

Come on guys, I can't be the only one having this problem. Can I? Does ANYBODY have any insight into what might be causing this?

If any of the relays contains a terminal labeled with a number other than 30, 85, 86, 87, and 87a, then that would explain your problem. Which of the two diagrams did you use and are you sure you used SPDT relays? If you are certain you have SPDT relays labeled with the numbers I mentioned above, have you checked each relay for proper operation? If you used the three relay set up, are you sure each of the diodes are good? If you can take a picture of the wired relays and post it here, I'm sure I can figure it out.

Thank you for your response. I used the two (2) relay configuration. The relays are Bosch type with all of the terminals you mentioned. (30, 85, 86, 87, and 87a) I really don't have any way to post a picture but I will remove the relays and test them for proper operation. I assume that without power to the relays terminals 30 and 87a should be closed while 30 and 87 should be open. When powered this situation should be reversed. Is that correct?

Well sh*t! I just finished testing the relays and here's what I found.

With no power applied terminal 30 has no continuity with terminal 87 nor 87a.

When power is applied the situation is reversed. Terminal 30 has continuity with both terminals 87 and 87a. This is true for both relays.

Any idea what's up? Are these just a different type, or do I have bogus relays? 8^(

Yes, they are a different type, but are you sure the center terminal isn't labeled 87b? Anyways, glad you found the problem.

Yes I am sure. They are marked on the packaging as well. It says "Power to Lamps" (87 &87A). They appear to be made by Blazer. The model number is DF005.

This is probably a really stupid question but I don't suppose there is any way I can make these relays work for my application is there?
