A couple years ago I had the Viper 5701 installed in my 2010 Ford Explorer via Best Buy in a state that I don't live in anymore (moved shortly after the install). Well a few months after I noticed that my Dome lights don't turn on unless the override switch is turned on (the switch that turns on all interior lights to their brightest). The lights do turn on when a door is open. But in order for the lights to turn on I have to switch on the override switch which is very annoying. Any ideas on what I should check out?

Not following here..."The lights do turn on when a door is open" and they turn on manually. The way I read this it sounds like they are working fine so I'm not sure what you are asking.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Let me list the scenario's on when the lights turn on.
1) Turn the override switch to the ON position. At this point I can turn the dome lights in the front and rear both on and off by pressing the individual dome light switches.
2) When the doors are opened. All Dome lights light up as they should.
Now the scenario of when they don't turn on.
1) The override switch is in the OFF (or normal) position. The individual dome light switches will not turn on the dome lights.
Let's say we are driving down the road and my child needs to see at night in the rear seat. At this point she can't turn on the dome light unless I engage the override switch to the ON position.
Does that clear things up?

Okay..........what do you mean by turn on, when you flip the switch to turn on the dome light, open the door to turn them on? Have check other exploders to make sure thats how it works?

That is correct. The "map lights" have individual switches. When I alter the switches from Off to On nothing will happen unless I turn on the dome lights with the override switch. After that then the map lights will turn on and off by the individual switches.

JK on the previous post....
actually i think the maps are supposed to work ANYTIME like you are wanting.
i wonder if the fuse that feeds the maps is blown and when you activate the domes, power from the (turned on) domes' ground wire that is seeking ground goes through the map grounds when their switch is engaged and and through the map bulb finding ground in other devices connected to the maps power wire.
maps are kinda being reverse biased
anything else in your vehicle that requires constant 12v not working?

tcox8,
Have you tested if the dome light will turn on when opening any of the passenger door(s)?
Ford door latch switches are notorious for failing. And since the driver's door gets used the most, that's usually the one to go bad first.
On older cars, there would be a pin switch, similar to what's in your refrigerator, mounted to each door jamb that would turn the interior lights on and off.
In many new cars, and I'm pretty sure in yours too, the switch is inside the door, built into/onto the latch that holds the door shut.
Regardless, I would think that Best Buy would warranty their work regardless of what store the original installation was done at. I don't want to put words into their mouths, but I'd imagine they'd be willing to at least check out the installation of the alarm system just in case.
