I have a Fosgate 851s (425x2) for my subs (2-rfd2212, 250 ea coil)and I am getting an 851x (110wx4) for my interior rear infinity 6x9 (110w/ea) front 6.5 component (90w/ea)

I have a 1 farad cap for the sub amp... do I need another one for the other amp. I am not using the full capacity of the amp, really only half capacity. Hooking each speaker up to one channel.

If I do need another one how should I hook this all up??? Please get detailed in description if you will, I don't want to screw anything up!

I used to run a one farad cap running two PPI PC Class amps (power hungry boogers!). Never once did I loose battery power or did the lights dim. The amps were running 3 JL 12W6's and XR525csi components. By my calculation you wouldn't need a second cap, but it wouldn't hurt you either. The 851x will only use about a quarter of the power the cap will provide.

I would definetly series out the power from the cap to both amps though! Simply running battery power to the 851x won't dim your lights but why drain any more from the battery than you have to!

You say series the power....what do you mean by this? Should I put the cap before the distribution block or right before one of the amps? how and where should I put the cap?

I was taught that as a rule the cap should be no further (in wire length) than 18 inches from the amps. If anyone has thoughts otherwise I would like to know (for my own install that I'll be doing) The cap should be placed before the distribution block, that way the power is split to both amps but only requires one input and output power and ground.

you only need one cap, and place it after the distrubution block before the sub amp.......youll need it for when theres a drain on the charging system..mostly when deep bass is called upon.......

Thanks for the input, but I have a question on that... You say I only need one cap, and after the dist block.... So which amp am I hooking it up to??? Then you say the other one does not need one at all? Just curious if you can explain a tad bit more. Thanks again!

youll want to put it on the sub amp line...you wont need one for the other amp only pushing 6x9 and 6.5s,not a lot of bass, but youll need it for the part that requires the most power to push the subs on real deep bass notes.. basically it stores the charge in it self and discharges when its called upon, its ,almost, like having a batttery back there for the amp itself..also get it as close to the amp as possible

I have been asking for help about my distrubution block heating up.

I have my cap before the block. and it gets really hot. Should I change it like this? Regardless it was working before the other way now I change vehicles and my block heats up. Where is the resistance coming from?
