uk spec mk1 galaxy electric windows

hey guys. my uk spec v reg mk1 galaxy electric windows work when they feel like it so im guessing the module had packed up so im wanting to wire in some relays to operate the windows. any ideas guys? im assuming i will need 2 relays for each window? cheers in advance.

Yes, but the door modules are built onto the motors, easier to get a module from a VW at a breaker's yard.Test before boxing up.

cheers for the reply harry. :) well this is a fault that comes and goes but i thought the motor was at fault so i bought a replacement electric window regulator that didnt work either. ive been doing a little research on this and ive discovered that the module can be removed and two wires connected to the motor inside and the module bypassed totally. only thing is the car will no longer have global closing or one touch window raising/lowering but after having no windows that roll down for like six months its a small price to pay. :) once the motor is modified a circuit can be made by wiring two relays together so when the switch is pressed one way it rolls down and when pressed the other way the relays reverse the polarity of the motor rolling up the window :) i ve have modified the motor so it only has two wires insted of a multi plug with a bundle of wires and wired the two relays but i have not fitted it to the car. if this works i can do the same to the passenger side :)

If you can remove the control module from the motor then it will work as you suggested.Test before boxing up.

i have been testing the modified regulator with a car jump pack and a 12 volt tester probe and so far so good its all working so far. only concern i have is the way the relays are wired. the switch needs to throw out a negative polarity to work when pressed either way and i havent tested the switch yet and are unsure of how to do it.

Mmmmm. if the switch needs rewiring. Can't the relays be rewired differently to work on a different polarity? I'd rather leave the switch wiring alone. Sorry if its a easy thing to do. I'm just learning about relays lol.☺

You can make the switches positive or negative just make the relay coils pos or neg triggered look here in the relay section, locks, add actuator, it's the same wiring, your relay coil is marked 86 and 85 normal convention makes 86 the pos side. thus if POS switching through 86; 85 has a constant ground (earth), if NEG switching through 85, 86 has a constant 12V+. really dead simple, you have a high current POS, RED and NEG BROWN already in the driver's door. Except you might have to open up the switch box hence my first answer wins every time. Otherwise this thread will go on forever , it's a very common problem with Mk lV Golfs and their derivatives, Passats, Sharon, Alhambra and Galaxy. Change the module! Although why manufacturers persist in mounting poorly made modules in the driver's door subject to slamming, crashes water ingress and corrosion is beyond me.Test before boxing up.

cheers for the help harry. i bought a replacement regulator..... the complete thing. at the time of buying.the door card was removed with the multi plug easy to get to. the day it was bought it i plugged it into the wiring in the car. didnt work. :( a few days later the window started working so i replugged the new lifter in and it worked..... but not for long. the car has loads of electrical gremlins which ive tryed to fix for months with no luck so ive decided to go down this route :) i,ll have a read on here and let you know how i get on. cheers again

Off the record IMO anything with VAG origins is bedevilled with processor based problems, engine, gearbox and body management. Why do you think they market the VAG-Com reader/reset tool specifically for VAG?Test before boxing up.
