I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with
Viper 791xv Alarm Remote Start. It worked prefect for years, now recently the remote start isn't working, and neither are the door locks. The starter makes a ticking sound, but won't fire up.
It has a xk532 bypass module with CHDL7 firmware
as well as a DEI 556U bypass module with a second key in it.
The alarm and transponder seem to be working properly, so I am guessing it is an issue with one of the bypass modules?
Is there any easy way to trouble shoot these? I have checked the fuses and connections, all seem to be in place.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I am curious as to why they didn't use the 532 to do the transponder portion. It can be a pig to program but there should have been no reason to lose a key there.

Here is the guide for that unit

Hope it helps!

I would try reprogramming the 532 is what I am suggesting by the way. I thought I typed it but I did not. Sorry!

Thanks for the help,
I actually found that manual yesterday in doing some research on the units, I am a bit confused as to the part where you need to use a jumper wire to power uo the ignition? is this somewhat like hotwiring a car? could I just start the car with the key?
How would I go about this? take a constant 12v source and touch it to a specific wire? what wire might that be? I have the wiring diagram for my truck, so I could figure out wire colors, but what type should I be looking for? ignition?
Thanks again for your help.

Yes you can use a 3rd key if it is wrapped in aluminum foil. In fact that is the easiest and most reliable method. Or if you have a black key that does not start the truck but will turn the key cylinder.
See here for more info on the aluminum foil trick

I have had limited success quickly wrapping one of the 2 working keys during the process but it is difficult to do and takes practice.
Otherwise yes it is essentially hot wiring the ignition. Strip open the 12v feed and the ignition 1 wire. Using a fused lead when prompted just jump 12v to the ignition wire. The dash will turn on as if the key was turned on.

I tried it, and nothing happened, I an thinking the xk532 is dead, the LEDs aren't lighting up, no matter what I do. I held the program button, in which the LEDs are supposed to flash, as well as connected the door lock harness, where the LEDs are supposed to be on, then turn off.
I found one on eBay for $6, so I guess I'll give that a go and report back.

Do the units have good power and ground?

I concur with catback. ALWAYS rule out wiring problems before throwing parts at anything. If you have a bad ground and it caused your current piece to go bad, the same thing will happen to the new one too. Don't throw money at it unless you are 100% sure it will be the fix! viper 791xv remote start and lock problem -- posted image.

I checked the pins with a multimeter, both modules have good power and ground.
I tried the replacement xk532 and nothing changes. This one has the LEDs working properly.
