dodge ram off road lights

good day everyone i have a 2014 dodge ram 2500 im wanting to put some off road lights on and have them activated by the high beam switch via a relay. a friend of mine told me that the highbeam and daytime running lights on this vehicle are the same circuit and therefore a relay off the highbeam switch would not work. can anyone confirm this and if so what is the recommended method to accomplish this. thanks

Very unlikely depending on local regs. Here in the UK the DLRs shutdown on activating side and headlamps. Trigger your relay from the wire that goes to POS 12V+ when you turn on your high beams.

what i dont want is the offroad lights turning on when the daytime running lights come on just when i activate the high beams.

Are your DLRs on with the high beams then?

the drls are on the high beam circuit. my buddy said they work off of pwm when on drl but full 12 volts when on high. he said the relay wouldnt latch due to the pwm and would only buzz. i havent tried this yet just thought id see if anyone has any info.

At the headlight switch with a 5amp diode block after the join so no feedback?

so if i understand your saying from the high beam wire place a diode towards the relay pin 86, 85 to ground, 87 to +12v and 30 to offroad lights. is this correct?

Does your Ram have the base or premium (HID) lighting?

I haven't thought this through because it was late night my time. I have some more questions for you. Do North American vehicles now have headlight flashers, on the indicator stalk on the steering column? If so you have a high beam control wire in the steering column loom.. This wire could do one of four things. 1) POS switching. 2) NEG switching 3) Multiplex, i.e. resistive 4) Data. You will have to test and or refer to the wiring diagram. If 1 or 2 easy 1, trigger the relay and after your join, diode goes band away from join. If 2 same set-up but diode band towards join. If 3 if that voltage is 7 volts or above a standard relay will still work. If 5 volts or below you will need a specialist relay, Farnell etc., 5 or relevant voltage coil. If 4, I haven't a clue.
