my viper 5901 on my 98 rav4
installed it 5 years ago now i believe. once in a while i can be able to prepare my car for remote start before i leave the car but sometimes i can't.
what i do while pressing the brake i apply the handbrake then release the break after that press the button from the remote. sometime it takes it and sometime it does not take it. what could it be the problem?
i installed a viper 5904v for my 1991 toyota celica with this model i have no issue preparing it for remote start. it works all the time. why?

Could be a 5901 fault, they were glitchy in some aspects.

Were all the connections soldered?  T-Taps and Scotch-Loks can fail or cause intermittent problems as they age / deteriorate.

Maybe a door trigger going flakey?

Soldering is fun!

You can do a little digging around before even taking the car apart.
I would check out the parking brake indicator on the dash, the brake lights, make sure all of the door switches are working correctly, and so forth.
If there's a hood switch installed, check that too.
Basically, if it's not going into reservation, it should be one of those things.
If checking out the car like this doesn't indicate anything, then you'll have to take the dash down and test each of those wires as they enter the alarm brain. One of the inputs must be either stuck on all the time, or not coming on when it should.

I see. I'll work on it this week to see where the problem is.
