I have a hifonics centurion (100x2). Printed on the amp, are the words "1 Ohm stable". I am planning to attach an 12" Orion XTR2 DVC to the amp in a 2 Ohm mono (bridged) load. From my understanding, in a bridged setup, the amp actually "sees" half the impedance you provide it (i.e. in 4 Ohm bridged mono, the amp is actually "seeing" 2 Ohms [on each channel]). So, giving it a 2 Ohm load bridged mono would have the amp running @ 1 ohm, correct?

Anyhow, so the amp "says" it's 1 Ohm stable.. but I dunno.. what do you guys think? Should I just play it safe and only use 1 channel (unbridged), giving each voice coil ~100 watts, or do you think it's ok to put it in a 2 ohm bridged config?

4 Ohms each coil

1) Do not wire the coils independantly! Independant wiring can cause damage to the sub if the inputs/settings are not exact for each channel (that includes when bridged). Read this article for more information on the dangers on independant wiring.

2) I did basic some research on "hifonics centurion" amps and everything I found on the net says the same thing, they're 1ohm stable. Give it a shot, wire the 4ohm DVC in parallel and bridge the amp for max power. If the amp goes into protect mode or starts shutting down let us know (that would be a good indication that it wasn't truly 1ohm stable, but not the only reason).

haha.. ok. I'll give it a shot. I've had the amp for about 3-4 years now anyway (transplanted from old car). I'll let you know what happens. (hopefully not alot of smoke =p)

Oh, btw, when I said "just use one channel (unbridged)", I didn't mean each voice coil on a different channel. I was thinking just use 1 channel for both voice coils (parallel, for a 2 ohm load on 1 channel, ~100 watts/coil.. the other channel unused).. but yeah, I'll give it a shot at 2 ohms bridged first.

If your amp goes into protect mode with a 2ohm bridge then that would be your only other option without getting different equipment. Good luck :)
