Relay Isolation Question

I am running Dual optima redtop's using a battery isolator, (the isolator is basicly 2 large diodes that allow the alternator to charge both batterys but isolating the positive terminals of the batterys, they share a common ground.. question is I have my head unit running off the stock wiring harness and power is feeding it from the main battery (battery #1), My amp is running off of the secondary battery (battery #2), Im worried about the remote wire running from the head unit to the amp connecting the battery's together since the head unit is powered by battery #1 and the amp is powered by battery #2, I have attached a diagram on my plan to solve this problem, see URL below, post your comments on if this setup will solve the problem and keep the battery's isolated.. diagram: http://www.allaboutdecksmd.com/iso.JPG (be sure to put .JPG extenion in UPPERCASE) thanks for a speedy reply

I looked at your circuit and that should work fine. One question that I have is, why don't you rewire the Head Unit to the second battery so it will be hooked to the same battery as your amp. That way you would not be using your starting battery for running the stereo and you would not have the isolation problem. just my suggestions, Tom

uh just a comment though, if u didn't know, u may i don't know, but red tops are really only designed for starting a car, they don't provide the extra capaicity of a yellow top, nor can they handle complete discarges anywhere as good as a yellow top

It will work either way. If you wire the radio to the amp's battery then you might avoid some headaches when there are weird noises. Bill is right though, if you don't already have the red tops, you should opt for the yellow top for the stereo.Certified Security Specialist
