I'd like to be able to change my electric engine hatch lifts power supply (2) from 12V to 24V, they are designed to operate at either voltage (12V slower/24V faster). Would like to still activate lifts using the same 12V wiring going to a relay that will send out 24V to the lifts from my 2 12V house batteries.
Thank you
Thanks, Gary

It can be done with two SPST high-current solenoids.
Connect ALL 12V load (+) to one of the batteries. Including the battery charger. This battery will always be 12V. I'll call this battery #1. The second battery (#2) will normally be parallel to battery #1 to provide 12V from both batteries. Battery #2 will become the second battery in series with #1 to provide 24V when the solenoids are activated.
The solenoids have 3 terminals Normaly Closed. Normally Open. And Common.
Solenoid A:
NC = Battery #1 (+)
Common = Battery #2 (+)
N.O. = To 24V loads
Solenoid B:
N.C. Battery #1 (-)
Common = Battery #2 (-)
N.O. = Battery #1 (+)
Connect the coils of the solenoids in parallel, and to a switch or to the output of the lifter switch (Keep the lifter switch 12V)so as to activate 24V when needed.
Really complicated, and expensive too for what you want to do. I doubt you will do this circuit. There are also 12/24 converters available. Probably about $75 for a suitable capacity converter. Probably a better way to go.

Are you referring to one of these eBay items:
12v to 24v DC to DC Step Up Converter Regulator - 10A / 240W
Thanks, Gary

You didn't provide a link, nor did I go searching, but that appears to be what I have in mind. (10 A at 24V does indeed = 240W). They are also available from online electronics stores.

Voice Coil 1 on this diagram = Battery 1
Voice Coil 2 on this diagram = Battery 2
Amplifier output on this diagram = 12 or 24 volt out.
