I wish to do a remote start on a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT. Have checked the bypass vendors and no one seems to have an immobilizer bypass solution for this year vehicle. Everyone starts from 1998.
Does the 97 Explorer not have an immobilizer?
Thnx

It's been a long time since I've done one. I don't believe it has one. Does the truck have a small head key?

I believe Ford added a transponder chipped key system with the 1998 model year Explorer, so your 1997 shouldn't have one. You could try the "foil wrap test". Look for more info in the Pictorial section.
Soldering is fun!

I did try the foil wrap test and the vehicle started with the key wrapped. So I believe the truck might not have an immobilizer...

Great news. No key wrapping bypass needed.
Thanks.
