I can't seem to get my new air horn installed correctly. I have been all over these forums and the internet at large, but have not found the answer. So now it's time to see if anybody here can help me.
This is the three horn kit from Harbor Freight that has an optional musical sound. The installation instructions say to tie into the connection from the original horn, thereby triggering the air horn from the stock horn button on the steering wheel. As the air horn will only be used in select situations, I would like to run it to a button independent of the original horn. This is the original wiring diagram provided with the air horn kit:Air Horn Problems -- posted image.
On the initial attempt, everything worked beautifully and I was able to sound both the musical and standard horns. Here is how I had it wired: Air Horn Problems -- posted image.
However, this also caused to compressor to get extremely hot and begin smoking. I immediately unhooked everything and decided to do some research on the wiring and relay.
After learning all I could about relays and how they function, I attempted to wire it all back up using the new information I had learned. This is the diagram as listed on the relay: Air Horn Problems -- posted image.
Everything I have tried since my initial installation has resulted in nothing but blown fuses. I have searched and tried every different wiring option I found in the forums. All I did was blow more fuses. What am I doing wrong?!?!?
