Hello - new here, found your site and have gathered some good info already. I just bought a 98 dodge ram and found it didn't have keyless entry, what fun! So I bought a viper and got under the dash, found that there was a Silencer unit installed (so there was keyless entry before not sure why the previous owner didnt know this or have remotes) and I removed it so far and have installed to a point to the main harness (minus the parking lights), shock sensor (because it was simple), control center & door lock relay are plugged in.
So I have keyless entry which is great! Now I'll start looking to getting the remote start (not really high priority but interesting none the less).
My next steps:
Identify the parking light wiring for tying to main harness: Observed that the unit is fused for 10A but the fuse in the truck is a 15A, so I checked amps and found that it was only drawing about 2.5 amps for parking lights anyways. Just need to get to the wires. Believe that I would have to go positive as I dont believe there is a relay for the parking lights on the truck.
Troubleshoot the siren - I get the alarm going on the shock sensor but no sound, found I have 12V at the plug of the 5305 but no sound. Figuring either not a good enough ground or an issue with the unit but I'll have to cut my heatshrink off to get back and test more.
There are a ton of options for this thing but with it being a 98 pickup I believe most are of no use to the vehicle.
I'm not seeing a need for the orange wire in the main harness.
From the aux harness I can see value in using
Gray: HOOD TRIGGER INPUT
Black/White: (-) PARKING BRAKE/EMERGENCY BRAKE INPUT
Violet: (+) DOOR TRIGGER INPUT
Then on to figuring out where the Remote Start Heavy Gauge Harness, 10-pin connector wires all go.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge I'm new to messing with car electrical (but I've spent a lot of time in controls & maintenance).
