Hey Mobiletoys2002, yes I have heard of Paradigm ( not Paradighm ) and I have a set of front speakers and center channel from them. They are a very good company that markets mid/high end components for a reasonable price. You are right about them though, they do make exceptional products that should be placed into car audio systems. Another good company that I've heard is Acoustic Profile , they are a strict speaker company and do not do amps, receivers or anything like that, so all their R&D go into speaker technology. My suggestion would be to pick up a pair of Paradigm Phantom speakers and their PDR-12 subwoofer for great home theater sound. Polk makes a self amplified tower speakers with 2 10" active subs in each tower speaker ( RT1000 ) and these are also a true gem for the money. There are alot of companies that are out on the market that produce nice stuff, but when it comes down to buying, the mighty dollar prevails velocity please read -- posted image.

One thing I'd like to note - many people see a home theater sub like the one you're talking about, and think, wow, this thing's only 100 watts! I'm getting ripped in my car audio! But most people don't take into acoc**t that the 100 watt amp is also running on 115v AC, in a perfect environment. The car is loud, it vibrates, it's hot, and it's 12v DC. Now, if you actually look around very carefully, there are some great class A or AB amps available for cars, that run around 50 watts, and will blow away any amps you have ever heard for volume and clarity. But, they are extremely expensive, and usually large as well. They produce a ton of heat, and are very hard to build for 12v DC, compared to AC. If you're interested in bang for your buck type audio, I'd check out Adire: www.adireaudio.com

yup. while a home powered sub (now we're getting into my domain here.. home theater. I haven't worked in car audio consistantly for about 10 years now.. sadly) does have to move more air (larger room), you are talking about 115VAC for power, and almost unlimited current supply (to a point) not to mention many higher-end subs use a class A, or Class A-D hybrid amplifier, which you don't see much in a car (heheh) Also in a car you have to overcome usually around 50 to 90+dB of road-noise, traffic, etc, and cars are notoriously lousy acoustical environments, whereas for a high-end home theater, the entire room is shaped, and designed for one thing. Audio. I use KEF reference series for everything but the sub in my system at home, and for the sub, I use an Energy e:xl-S12 12" sub, with an amp rated for 150W RMS, 600W peak. In a 15'x15.5' room, watching a movie like Phantom Menace or Blade, I have to put CDs back in the racks and so forth afterward. The bass will knock things off of shselves easily.
However, in my older IASCA Pro car, I had 2 cerwin-vega LE-12D 12" DVC subs, receiving 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms from an Orion digital reference series 2125SX amplifier in a 4"ID-ported 4.38 cu. foot enclosure tuned to 35Hz, and with that considerable amount of power, in a Ford Festiva, I was hitting around 143dB with a perfect C-weighted curve.
Home systems and car systems just aren't really comparable.
