Im looking to install my remote start alarm in my expedition. Will I need the data bypass thing or can I go without it?

Your vehicle should have PATS (immobilizer), so you should use a bypass. Whether you want to use a data bypass, or a basic universal (556U) that needs a key placed inside is up to you.
