Hello! First time posting here, experience with remote starters is minimal, I've installed one in a 2006 Escape, replaced a fob for my 05 Escape, but now I'm working with an 04, and I'm hitting a bit of a wall.
I bought the vehicle to repair and sell for some easy money, once I did the transmission, I finally got to test the remote start, and found that the door locks work, so the vehicle is recognizing the fob, and when you attempt to start it, it will turn on the lights, then nothing, it acts a lot like mine does if I open the hood, but I've checked the hood pin, and it seems to be working okay. I've checked what error code it gives after a no start, and it gives me a code 8, which I've found is main switch off, or output out of limit, but beyond that, I can't determine what would cause the out of limit, vehicle does not appear to have a switch to shut off the remote start. Probably good to note, this thing sat for years with no battery in it, I can't find anything about programming I may need to do, but I recall on my friends 06, I had to program the starter for something, I believe to recognize when the engine was running.
I've attempted to put the vehicle into, and out of, valet mode, but the fob is a little crappy, and I can't seem to get it to switch between the two, according to the manual I found online, I need to be using group two commands, but as far as I can tell, it's not switching, because using the command to do so, just changes the run time of the remote start, based on it being the same command, but in group one, and flashing the lights, once, twice, three times, then four, instead of twice for valet disabled, and 4 times for valet enabled, that said, I can't get my 05 to do it either, so maybe I'm a little off on the manual, I'm going by the look of the remote alone.
Maybe a little long winded, so TL;DR, can valet mode cause an error code 8 with an older Astrostart? What can cause the module to see an out of limit error for the starter output?

1 -when you try to remote start the truck what does the anti theft light do ?
2- have you tried to do a remote takeover ?
3- when you try to remote start the truck does anything happen ? ( Ingition or acc come on)

Hey, thanks for the reply!
1. The anti theft light just continues to blink every few seconds like normal when trying to remote start the vehicle.
2. I don't know how to do that.
3. When trying to remote start, the dash lights and radio come on for a moment, then go off, I can hear a relay under the dash click, followed by another, softer click, then another soft click, and the relay one more time before everything turns off.
It seems to be trying to start the vehicle, but something is stopping it from doing so, I really feel like it's going to be something simple stupid, but my lack of experience with this kind of thing is keeping me from seeing it.

Sounds like an issue with the bypass. If you tape the head of a spare key against the ignition key slot does it remote start?

start the truck with the key then activate the remote start. Turn off the key and see if the truck stays running under remote start.

Having a key near the PATS does not change anything, it still dos the same thing.
I also tried activating the remote start with the engine running, and when the key is turned off, the engine shuts off as well.
I did find out by accident, that it thinks one of the doors are open, I turned on the dome light so I could see, and when I set it back to the door setting, the light stayed on, no matter how many times I tried opening and closing various doors to get it to go out, apparently it was just turned off this whole time. I don't know if this would be a problem, I know my car won't start with a door open, but it's a manual, and that's a safety thing, to make sure the shifter hasn't been put back into gear. My personal Escape will remote start with a door open, but it could be set up differently, they appear to be the same module in both Escapes, but nothing saying they are the exact same.
