I have a Viper 5706v + VSP450 installed in an 1981 Chevy Monte Carlo (OBD1 computer equipped). I want to swap out the VSP450 for VSM550 Smart Start module. I called an online retailer and they said VSM550 requires pairing with DB3 module. Per my understanding, DB3 is for late model OBD2 equipped cars. Can someone clarify? Thanks.

no need for the DB3, the smartstart can be hard wired into the 5x06. but it will be only start, stop, lock alarm input, trunk and unlock. no data features like fuel level, which require a obd2 car and a dball3

Thanks silvercivicsir! Main reason for choosing DSM550 is for the global access, GPS capabilities (for theft recovery purposes) and 4G speed. Given the old and simple nature of the Monte Carlo, not too worried about losing out on the fancy info, lol!
Thanks again!

@silvercivicsir - "it will be only start, stop, lock alarm input, trunk and unlock. no data features"
Just to confirm, the GPS function would still work, right?

Yes, GPS is not dependent on OBD2.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
