1998 Volkswagen Golf, Replace Factory Alarm with Aftermarket

I have a 98 Volkswagen golf that I have removed the factory alarm out of and bridged pins 5 and 6 on the six pin connector this is working fine however I want to install an aftermarket alarm and remote start unit. I have looked at the wiring that was hooked onto the factory alarm and it has a lot of what my alarm needs to be installed right there. I was wondering if I will need to do as the aftermarket alarm says about the parking lights needing a relay and cutting the switch wires for the headlight and other things or can I just hook up the corresponding wires to the factory harness for the factory alarm? If all of that looks good, I made my own adapter plugs to just plug into the existing factory alarm harness and I just have to run my larger guage remote start wires and the siren and brake wire. Thoughts and ideas welcome.

Going by the diagram on my remote start unit is there a way that I can set it so that if the car is in gear it will not do remote start for this vehicle or is there something that I can add that will disable the remote start easily and I can re-enable the remote start at a later time without having to do any more rewiring maybe a switch or something what wire could I do that too?

Ok I think I got it all setup. I couldn't use my homemade plugs they looked like crap so I took them from the original alarm. But I was wondering if I can connect the remote start accessory wire with a diode to the clutch position switch for the remote start to bypass to clutch or will I need a relay? My girlfriend doesn't want switched bypassed all the time.

Two things... The clutch bypass should only occur during a remote start. This is for safety reasons. Additionally, make sure that the R/S manual transmission Loop Wire is still uncut and intact so the unit shuts down in Reservation Mode. I can't find any info on a 1998 Golf about the clutch. This way, the clutch is only bypassed during a R/S. You can't use the R/S's (+)Accessory Output because that signal goes OFF ( 0V ) during Starter wire output ( cranking ).Soldering is fun!

Thank you for the reply. One last thing I'm looking for is I'm trying to also put the handbrake wire to the alarm so that it has to be applied before the remote start will activate on this car. Is the handbrake wire going to be a negative polarity? And about where would I find that wire?

Once again, old car, no wire info found on the Hand Brake. Typically it is a (-) signal. Check the Hand Brake lever for a two pin connector, one will be ground and the other will get ground when the Hand Brake is engaged.Soldering is fun!
