i am planning on helping some one install a CD player in a 1991 lincon town car and was wondering what kind of adaptars would be needed? the car appears to have a factory amplifier in the trunk. would that mean that i would need some form of a factory line out converter? would a plug adapter work? would i have to run wire from the cd player to the amp and tap in there?
thankx

Hi,

I just joined this forum earlier today, but I've been a car audio fanatic for quite some time now.  I personally own a 1992 Lincoln Towncar Cartier w/ the "JBL Premium Sound System" which is what you probably have if you have the seperate amp in the back of your trunk and stuff.

As far as wiring the head unit goes, I just bypassed the factory amp entirely, cause it's a decade old and my amp in my kenwood cd player went about 1/3 louder w/ almost twice the SQ in the upper volume range. If you need help w/ the wiring, look at the vehicle wiring database here at the12volt.com.  Just connect the wires in the factory wiring harness directly behind the stereo to the correct wires on the back of your CD player and voila ! Make sure to look up which power wire does what, cause it's easy to mess up.

Trust me, you won't be dissapointed w/ the performance of the JBL interiors, especially the front two 5x7s  - they have a separe tweeter and woofer built into one 5 x 7 frame, and get plenty loud with clean head unit power. - My only complaint w/ them is that they don't have any bass - I'm going to be replacing mine with Audiobahn 110 RMS 5 x 7s, but it will probabaly be a long time before you'll want more out of them.
