Hello,
Apologies if this simple question could be found on the forum, i looked all over but couldn't find an answer.
I have a 2000 f250 that already has an alarm system installed in it, (it came with the truck) it appears by the model number of the alarm system that is it an Avital 2200, which is pretty old as far as i understand.
Everything with the alarm works fine, it controls the factory power locks and has an alarm. I wanted to add an actuator to the tailgate to lock and unlock in conjunction with the doors when i press the button on the remote. i bought a tailgate kit from "pop n lock" that was made for my truck (pretty popular mod as these trucks didn't get power tailgates until later on), i installed the actuator and harness, and i ran my wiring up to the Avital, just two wires control the actuator. I figured this would be a simple wiring task, just tie into the existing wiring on the Avital that controls the door locks. I found the wiring diagram for the Avital 2200 online, Blue and Green activates the door locks (that coincided with the colors on the actuator, so i figured it was similar to car stereo wiring, some sort of industry standard wire colors for door locks) so i tied into those with a t-tap. It didn't have the desired effect. The tailgate lock started working fine, but the door locks stopped working and i got extra chirps out of the alarm. I reversed what i had done and thought i'd seek advice here. As it sits now it works like it did, so how can i add an actuator to function with the rest of the actuators ?
I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction ? I'm a total noob when it comes to car alarms, but i really want to learn and understand. I'm working on several 12 volt projects so i'm hoping some folks out there can help me learn. Thanks in advance !

You can trace the alarm wiring and check for any blown fuses, but the unit is likely fried. The door lock outputs are meant to drive relays and not door lock actuators directly. Note the factory diagram shows a 20 amp fuse at the top.

Probably the simplest way to add on an actuator would be to connect to the wires of another actuator since you know it is wired correctly.
A better solution would likely be wiring in some relays or a 451M door lock relay module.
If you go to the relay section of this site you'll see there are diagrams for all kinds of things:

The unit itself seems fine, after a quick key cycle it has returned to it's normal operation, so it looks like i dodged a bullet there, i guess i should be more careful in the future and not assume (i'm not honestly opposed to having the Avital removed and a newer alarm system installed, but i'd likely be at the mercy of a local best buy since most of the locally owned shops don't have great reputations) having worked for Best buy many years ago, most* of the people who work there arent "technicians" but maybe things have changed since those days.
Ill see what knowledge i can gain about the 451M, thanks for the help so far !
Any other insight is welcome !
Thank you !

Negative from switch = Blue and Green from the alarm.

Thank you for the information so far, if i were to go the 451M route (it seems a little more tidy) would i wire it in this fashion ?

Close, in the video the white and brown wires were not used. You need to ground those two wires. It's the same thing as linked above by IAAI.

If your F250 is a Crew cab, the door lock wiring runs aft to the rear doors on each side of the truck, under the rocker panel trim in the front door openings; it just pops up. Go to the harness under the driver door rocker trim and connect to the pnk/orn and pnk/blu. These go to the rear door, so the tailgate will be on the second unlock, or unlock all doors, not with driver-only.(If the avital is wired this way.)
When I did my tailgate lock on my 99 I wired it to the door lock actuators as described above. I also put a relay in the tailgate actuator wire that goes (+) in Un-Lock. I wired the "trunk pop" output of the viper to the relay so I can unlock the tailgate without unlocking the truck. << Not necessary, but kind of cool.
#87and #86 to fused Hot at all times.
#30 To tailgate actuator wire that is (+) in Unlock
87a To Truck power door lock wire that is (+) in Unlock. (Pnk/orn in above schematic.)
#85 To Avital red/wht "trunk release" output.

i opted to tie into the factory wiring first, this worked like a charm ! So thank you for the helpful advice! I do want to try (davep's) method above for utilizing the "trunk button" It may not be "super useful" but it's a good project to get my feet wet in working with relays. So with that method i'll only need one relay correct ?

Awesome thank you !
Can i ask a sub question ?
i need a second remote (i only have 1) since this system is older will it work with a newer remote ? such as this one from amazon ?

I went to the Avital site but it didn't list compatible models for some reason.
Again, thank you for all the help !
