is there a way to connect the remote starter so it works with a manual transmission. it's not dangerous as long as the e-brake is up. is there anyway to "trick" the system so the remote start will work. i know now on autos it has to be in park to start. so is there a way to make the remote starter think its in park.

This is one of the most common questions (and most debated) ive seen on this forum.  I also have a manual tranny so i have read a bunch of posts and asked some people i know about it.

The problem, of course, is that the remote start may activate while in gear and cause serious injury or death.  There are special relays you can buy that act like alarms that remote start a manual tranny.  They make you performe a number of actions in sequence to confirm that the car is in fact in neutral, and thus allowing you to remote start.

Another option is a reed switch, similar to those on home security systems on windows.  Install this on your shift linkage so the switch provides a ground only when in neutral.  (Also wire into your E-Brakes switch so The E-Brake must be on).  This is the option i will probally try when winter rolls around.

Many of the certified installers frown upon this idea.  Of course they have been trained to follow the alarm companies rules, to prevent lawsuits etc.  So they will naturally fall on the side of caution.  I believe a reed switch can perfore just as good as a factory neutral safty switch in an automatic car.  In fact i had to replace my girlfriends nutral safty switch in her automatic car.

To conclude id like to stress that there is risk involved of course, and how safe your remote start is, is compleatlly up to you as far as what kind of switch you install and how well you install it.  Just about everyting about cars involves risk, even the simple act of driving on the freeway is dangerous.  Hope this helps you decide if remote start is really what you want/need.  Read some old posts for different points of view, but please dont just ground the neutral start switch like some do.  Thats just stupid.

This is FALSE. If you try and remote start it in first with the ebrake on, the car is still gonna jump probably a good 5 - 10 feet depending on what kind of surface your on. Very dangerous. Not recommended. Sooner or later you will forget or accidentally try and start it.

If you want a remote start for your manual tranny get one specifically for manual tranny. Be prepared to jump through all of the hoops that the remote start requires to make the remote start believe you are in neutral.

The only true way to do a manual transmission remote start is to use a Clifford Solaris G4 Alarm Remote Start or the Omni Start. If you guys need one i can have them in stock.
