I have 2 choices...... use my current uninstalled component set which is a Cerwin Vega SS6.2 (6.5") or step down to a 5.25" component set? Reaso why i ask is with the 6.5" set i'll more than likly have to do some minor surgery to the inner door panel if i go with the larger set versus just a simple adaptor kit.

Amp to power this is my Phoenix Gold QX4150 amp...... 50w rms x 4

The main difference you're looking at is the 6.5s will be able to handle the lower frequencies better.  If you have any subwoofers, or even just 6x9s or 6.5s in the back then you will be ok stepping down.  However, if you've got like 5.25s all around, then I would just take the time to custom fit the 6.5s.  Just my opinion.

I would take the time and do the modification if it meant better sound in the end.

Just the Cerwin Vegas providing sound on the interior?  I wouldn't step down.

Well eventually i wanna upgrade the rear 6x9's and get a deck that is mp3 compatible.

The 6.5" will be alone in the door and the .75" tweeter will be in the factory sail panel hopefully
