Im installing a remote starter and i need to tap the tach but i cant find it the sheet says red white or black at coil pack. i looked around and could not find the wire. can somone who recalls doing this install tell me were the damn tach is. and do i have to put that heat protecting cord around the wires that are in the engine compartment. is there any way to test wires with a multimeter

easiest way is to use one of the wires that go to one of the injectors

as far as i know the tach is an A/C Voltage and the injectors Provide DC so i dont think they are compatible i want to hear from some one else before i do the injector thing

it works, the remote start is looking for the on/off pulse be it a signal from the coil pack or from the injectors, the voltage may be slightly different, but not different enough for the remote start to care.
I've done it quite a few times when the voltage check didn't work too well

the alarm your using has to have tach learning, if not it won't work.  You can try running in on voltage sense but i've had problems before.

If the remote starter doesn't have auto tach learning you CAN still use the injector wire. You just have to set it for 1 cylinder programming. Command Start systems you can manually set the tach wire to an injector and it will work.

set your meter for AC the tach should read between 1 and 6 when the vehicle is running.  Not sure if thats the case on the injector wire though

For tach location you can always go to any of the uncommon wires on the injectors or the independent coilpacks, There is always a common color   wire which will test as ignition 12v on either the coilpacks or the injectors
