I was given a Orion xtr1000 amp. everytime I hook a 12"sub to it, it keeps blowing them.1st time was a audiobahn aw1200q,2nd was a pioneer ts-w305dvc.I wired them in parallel, for 2ohms.The manual for the orion, says is stable to 1 ohm. What gives? please note,I didnt have the gains all the way up , just halfway also, the 12's are in a sealed box ,with it half full of fiberfill. thanks for any advice  I keep blowing subs! help! -- posted image.

where you doing crossover on/off or high/low pass filter push-button-type-action while the power was on?

this can be fatalto a speaker, depending on the condition of the switches (MAY send a voltage surge to the speaker...) always do while the power is off!

just a thought

"something smells funny" about that free amp you got... can you have it looked at, or keep your eyes out for a good used one? (we have something called the want-advertiser in my neck of the woods... loaded with people almost giving stuff away...).

Might be cheaper than another sub, if ya know what I mean.

How loud was it playing when you started to smell it?  And what's the status of it now?  Does it just not play anymore?  What about the amp, do any of its protection lights turn on?
