98Taurus

I have a 98 Ford Taurus I want to put a 6 disc changer in.  The stock radio is 6 disk compatibal.  Is there a brand of changer that will work with the stock head unit or am I going to have to get a ford changer.  Any help will be greatly appriciated:-).

Actually yes there are a couple of options you have.  You can get a changer that is basically the same as the ford changer but is made by a different company and therefore costs a whole lot less.

Also there are some adapters out there made by Peripheral and Blitzsafe that will let you use certain brands of aftermarket cd changers and control them using the factory head unit.  The advantages to doing this are that the aftermarket changer is probably of higher quality than the ford oem changer, and certainly would cost less.

If you just want something that's a piece of cake to install, the USA SPEC SCD-F100-2i is a good way to go and is still very affordable compared to the ford brand changers.

the changer is made by alpine.  but, since your using a factory deck and speakers, it won't sound as good as aftermarket decks and speakers.

lol oh well.  Yea you should probably get the USA spec changer for simplicity sake.  As chuck_tempe pointed out, it still won't sound as good as an aftermarket head unit and changer setup, but then again doing an aftermarket head unit install in a 98 taurus is no walk in the park and the kits are usually pretty expensive.

My guess is that Cousin Cleotis has a tape player right now and just wants to add the ability to play CDs.  He probably is satisfied with the sound of the factory system, and so the oem-compatible changer is probably the best way to go.
