After a good solid year and a half of great preformance, my poineer premiere 8400mp head unit has decided to die on me. I've checked all the wires, changed all the fuses i could think of (the ones that say RADIO) and even took the top off and smelt it for burns. Nothing. It doesnt seem to be getting anypower since the face wont flip down and the clock does not show up. any ideas before i go out and buy a new headunit ? it worked this morning, i turned it off and then didnt touch it agian until a few hours later. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

verify your constant 12v, switched 12v and ground connections with a DMM before you go and purchase a new deck, chances are that it is a fuse somewhere in the system, and there is a pretty good chance that it wouldnt be labeled "RADIO". If you cant find anything, take it to a professional before you purchase another $500 stereo.

I have the same radio and after like a year, the radio sometimes the screen dies, but you can still hearing the music, and I have to turn the car off, take out the faceplate, put it back, and wors fine.... If the radio in under the warranty take it to any place or call pioneer and they will tell you where you can take it

Since it's a Pioneer Primier it means that you have 2 years warranty so after you check the wires everything turns out fine and you are sure it's the unit you still have warranty so save your money. My suggestion would be to take the stereo to a local stereo shop and let them check it for you on a bench for like $5-$10 and decide from there.

im going to verify the power supply sunday, just have to get a multimeter, i've already replaced all the fuses with radio in the title with brand new ones. its got to be a short or a fuse somewhere because the light for the ashtray underneath it is out as well.

however, it maybe the headunit itself, a day or two ago it started to open and close and shut off repeatedly. i took the faceplate off and put it back on and it stopped.

well, it doesnt matter now becuase i basically rip the thing apart and just started pulling out diodes and capaciters and the like. i have issues..... it was infact the headunit itself.
